Lady Eagles fight off Milligan, 3-1

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman's women soccer team scored two goals in the second half to put away Milligan College 3-1 at the new McCown Field Wednesday night.

The Lady Eagles are now 3-2 on the season. The Lady Buffaloes fall to 3-3-1 with the loss.

C-N took a 1-0 lead in the first minute and a half with a goal from sophomore Maleya Garrison (Hendersonville, Tenn.).  Garrison recovered the ball after an Alex Pinger (Hendersonville, Tenn.) shot was saved by Milligan goalkeeper Lauren McInturff.

Carson-Newman had a chance before the first half ended to add another goal, but couldn't get anything into the net before the buzzer.

In the 55th minute, C-N's Brooke Eham (Chelsea, Mich.) hammered a goal past McInturff off an assist from Lizeth Mugina (Wilmington, N.C.) to take a 2-0 lead.

It took nearly 25 minutes for the Lady Buffaloes to respond. Grace Shawley snuck a shot past C-N goalkeeper Sarah Tompkins (Franklin, Wis.) in the 80th minute.

Seven minutes later the Lady Eagles gave themselves some breathing room with a goal from senior forward Trenna Howell (Oak Ridge, Tenn.).

The Lady Eagles outshot Milligan 16-6 in the game. Tompkins finished with four saves in goal.

Howell led C-N with seven shots, with five on goal.
