Lauren Wade Earns SAC Player of the Week Award

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn – On Tuesday, the South Atlantic Conference announced Carson-Newman junior forward Lauren Wade (Coleraine, Northern Ireland) has been named SAC Player of the Week for September 11th-17th. Wade logged six goals in two games during the week along with a pair of assists.

Wade's week began with a remarkable performance against USC-Aiken on Monday. She scored five times and added two assists in a 9-0 Eagles win. Her five goals are the most by a player in Division II this season, with only two players in Division III able to match that total. Her 12 points in one match are the most by a player across all three divisions in the NCAA. Both totals were the most by a C-N player since Liz Jallo in 2002.

On Saturday, Wade added to her count with a goal in the Eagles 4-1 win at Newberry. She took a pass from Holly Talbut-Smith (Crawley, England) at the top of the 18-yard box and sent a shot past the keeper for her 11th goal of the season. Wade has scored at least once in every game this year.

Wade's 11 goals and 28 points currently lead the NCAA and her six assists are tied for the most in Division II. Her excellent start has helped the Eagles begin the year 5-1 and win their last three-in-a-row. Last week, she was named Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week.

The junior is the first C-N player to win SAC Player of the Week this season.

Wade and her teammates will take the field again on Wednesday at McCown Field, when they host Mars Hill at 5pm. You can catch the game live on cneagles.com/live, where there will be complete coverage of the match, including live stats. Mark Inserra will have the call and there will be a full recap posted on cneagles.com.
