JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn – After spending the last two weeks out of the Top 25, the Carson-Newman women's soccer team has jumped up to No. 14 in the NSCAA Coaches Poll that was released Tuesday. The Eagles also took the top spot in the NSCAA Regional Rankings for the Southeast.
Coach Richard Moodie's squad regained a spot in the rankings thanks to a pair of shutout victories over the past week. They clobbered Mars Hill, 8-0, on Wednesday before a 3-0 shutout on Saturday against Queens (N.C.).
Carson-Newman began the season ranked 11th and moved up to 10th in week one, but dropped out after that, though they have been receiving votes in the two polls since then.
Regionally, C-N climbed three spots to No. 1, leapfrogging Armstrong State, University of North Georgia and Columbus State, the team ranked No. 2 in the nation in the preseason. This is the second time in two years the Eagles have been ranked atop the Southeast, as they also earned the spot in November of 2015.
Grand Valley State, the three-time defending national champions, own the top spot in Division II with a 7-0-1 record. University of Central Missouri owns the No. 2 spot with Colorado School of Mines at No. 3. East Stroudsburg is ranked fourth with Stonehill College rounding out the top five.
On Wednesday, the No. 14 Eagles will look to build on their recent success when they visit Lenoir-Rhyne for a 7pm match.
