ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman women's soccer's Lauren Wade (Coleraine, Northern Ireland) has stuffed her trophy case with one final honor at the conclusion of her junior year.
The striker has been named the South Atlantic Conference Female Athlete of the Year. Wade brings home the sixth honor for women at Carson-Newman. The award ties the Eagles with Wingate for the most female honorees in league history.
Wade joins Rebecca Angus (women's soccer, 2007 and 2005), Marci Mitchell (softball, 2003) and Heather Randolph (softball, 1996 and 1995) as the Eagles' all-time honorees.
"I am very honored and privileged to be named the South Atlantic Conference Female Athlete of the Year," Wade said. "This just tops my first season at Carson-Newman and makes me look forward to next year that much more. This is really a team award though. Because I wouldn't have been able to do what I did without my teammates."
The junior started all 17 games she appeared in and compiled a remarkable line of 20 goals, 11 assists and 51 points en route to earning SAC Player of the Year, Carson-Newman Female Athlete of the Year and D2CCA/NSCAA All-America honors.
Wade ended the season leading the nation in points per game with an average of 3.00 and posted a goals per game average of 1.18 and an assists per game mark of 0.65, both of which placed her third in the country.
Wade's 20 goals were the seventh most nationally and tied her for the fifth-most in program history in a single season. Her point total placed her sixth in the nation and third in Carson-Newman history.
Her top effort came when she collected five goals and 12 points against USC-Aiken on Sept. 12th, the second-most goals and points in a game in 2016 on the Division II level and the second most in Carson-Newman history.
Wade registered hat tricks against Tusculum on Oct. 19th and Coker on Oct. 29th. She tallied goals in her first seven games as an Eagle.
