Lauren Wade Nabs TSWA Player of the Week Award

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn – The Tennessee Sports Writers Association has chosen Carson-Newman junior forward Lauren Wade (Coleraine, Northern Ireland) as their Player of the Week for September 4th-10th.

"First off, I just want to say thank you," Wade said. "It's a great honor to be named player of the week. Our whole squad has been brilliant so far this season. We've all become comfortable together and have gelled and we're all focused on the team philosophy."

This is the second straight week a C-N player has received this award, as Julianne Herrity (Donegal, Ireland) received the honor last week.

Wade, who has scored in every Eagles game in 2016, started the week by logging her team's only goal against Alabama-Huntsville, scoring unassisted in the 35th minute.

On Saturday, Wade had a hand in half the goals C-N scored in a 10-0 win over Francis Marion. Wade scored twice and added three assists, which, at the time, were the most for an Eagles players since Trenna Howell scored seven points in 2011 against Chowan.

Wade's most recent performance, a five goal, two assist afternoon against USC-Aiken on Monday, was not factored in when determining this award. So far this year, Wade has piled up 26 points, a total which no player in the NCAA, Division I, II or III, has matched. Her 10 goals are tied for the most in Division II with Anna Bondy of Northern State and Alimata Rabo from Southwestern Oklahoma.

Wade and the rest of the Carson-Newman women's soccer team will be traveling to Newberry on Saturday for their next match, with a start time of 1pm.
