Herrity Named SAC POTW After Four Goals in Two Games

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – For the second straight week, a member of the Carson-Newman women's soccer team has been named South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week, as Julianne Herrity (Donegal, Ireland) captured the honor for September 18th – 24th. Herrity put up four goals during the week, scoring twice in a pair of Carson-Newman victories.

"The players around me have stepped up, even from last year," Herrity said. "Lauren Wade (Coleraine, Northern Ireland) has 11 goals and a number of assists. Holly [Talbut-Smith] (Crawley, England) and Varin [Ness] (Sogndal, Norway) and Chelsea [Jordan] (Knoxville, Tenn.) have contributed as well, so it's been a team effort and we're pushing on offensively."

Herrity earned the honor just one week after Wade was selected as SAC POTW.

On Wednesday, Herrity's two first half goals helped the Eagles pound out an 8-0 victory over Mars Hill at McCown Field. Three days later, she scored twice in the second half against Queens (N.C.) She broke a scoreless tie in the 49th minute and tacked on a second goal in the 59th minute as C-N earned a 3-0 triumph.

Herrity has 13 goals to her credit this season, the most in the SAC. That total is also just three behind the total of 16 she scored all of last season. Her 28 points also tie her with Wade for the most in the SAC. The senior forward has five multi-goal games to her credit through eight matches, including a hat trick against Francis Marion on September 10th.

"We still have most of our players from last year," Herrity said, "and we've added a couple more [players] into that and we look good going forward."

On Wednesday, Herrity and her teammates will be on the road at Lenoir-Rhyne as they look to extend their win streak to six games and stay unbeaten in the SAC. The game has a scheduled start time of 7pm.
