LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Carson-Newman's softball program has had 11 student-athletes named Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced Monday afternoon.
The Eagles also ranked 21st in all of NCAA Division II for the highest team GPA in the country. Carson-Newman collectively carried a 3.63 GPA – the highest in the South Atlantic Conference and the second highest in the Southeast Region.
"I am extremely proud of not only those named to this honor but the team as a whole," Carson-Newman head softball coach Michael Graves said. "All 19 girls on our roster made the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll. We talk a lot about the importance of making good grades and being just as competitive in the classroom as you are on the field. Coach Toppel and I are glad that we have had the opportunity to be a part of the lives of these extraordinary young ladies."
Carson-Newman's 11 honorees are the second most in the South Atlantic Conference.
To qualify for the accolade, students need to have maintained a GPA of 3.50 or greater cumulatively. The full list of honorees is below. Nickolette Ferugson and Mari Robbins both carry 4.0 GPAs from the list below.
