CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A select few members of the Carson-Newman women's swim team trekked east through the elements for one last meet as an attempt to clinch a spot in the coveted NCAA Championship Meet in Indianapolis next month.

Sophomore Nancy Claire Smith (Franklin, Tenn.), sophomore Amanda Henderson (Bartlett, Tenn.) and freshman Courtlyn Fields (Anderson, S.C.) competed in the Royal Invitational hosted by Queens University.

"This meet provided one final opportunity to improve upon the already strong conference times for a few athletes that were very, very close to the National invite cuts," swim coach Paige McCord said. "They swam well; now, we wait for the final invite list early this week."

Smith set a "B"-provisional time in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:20.44. She also swam the 200 Individual Medley in a meet record time of 2:08.60. Smith competed in the 100 Breast and finished five-tenths of a second off a "B" time as she finished in 1:05.95.

Fields swam the 400 IM in 4:46.60 and the 200 Fly in 2:11.05.

Henderson swam the 100 Back in 58.94, which was six-tenths of a second off a "B"-time, and the 200 Back in 2:04.02, which was a quarter-second off a "B" time in that event.

Now, the Eagles await their fate in regards to the NCAA Championships. The meet list should be released in the upcoming week.
