Stepp, Burnett tabbed for Bojangles Athletes of the Week

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman track and field's Tanner Stepp (Dandridge, Tenn.) and swimming's Natalie Burnett (Sevierville, Tenn.) have been named Bojangles' Male and Female Athletes of the Week.

Burnett swam to two All-American honors and an Honorable Mention All-American accolade last week at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships in Indianapolis.

Burnett finished third twice during the span of the week that corresponded to two All-American honors. She finished third in the 100 Fly and the 100 Back. The sophomore's swim in the 100 Fly was the program's first individual All-American award. She swam the Fly event in 53.81.

In the 100 Back, she set the school record with a swim of 54.27 seconds.

Burnett reset the school record three times in the 100 Free and finished as the 10th-quickest swimmer in the nation in the event. Her final swim in the event tapped out at 50.92, which was a second quicker than her previous swim.

Stepp finished off his first indoor season by finishing tied for fifth in the nation with a jump clearing six-feet, nine-inches at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham.

Earlier in the week, Stepp was named the Southeast Region's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year by the USTFCCCA. Stepp won the track & field program's first All-American honor since Clayton Holmes received the honor in 1991.

During the indoor season, Stepp won three events and finished second in two others.
