Paige McCord Interview

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman swim teams' wait to get back into the pool was extended a week due to weather and travel conditions.

But now the Eagles get to swim in Maddox Pool once again this Saturday as they host the University of the Cumberland Patriots at 1 p.m.

"I kind of think the biggest thing is we went with it" coach Paige McCord said about last weekend's adventure. "The next day, we got in the water and raced on our own. That doesn't mean we didn't have some snowball fights along the way while we got tripped in the mountain for eight hours. We grew from it and we will be fine moving forward."

Carson-Newman is coming off a huge first meet of the 2014-15 season. Lenior-Rhyne traveled to Mossy Creek and C-N swept the Bears with the highest point total in school history. McCord's squad put up a combined 410 points en route to the first meet win of the season.

The Patriots enter the weekend 1-1 this season in duel meets. Cumberlands picked up a 243-131 win over Union Collge, but it fell to Xavier 258-220 in Cincinnati.

Saturday's meet will not be the first meet of the weekend for the Patriots though, as they will swim at Campbellsville University Friday night before venturing over to Jefferson City for the meet with C-N.

McCord is just ready for her team to get back in the water and swim against other teams.

"I'm really excited we can race. We just need to race. It's good to get up and race other competition and get everybody an opportunity to get some better times and show where they have been improving."

The Carson-Newman/University of the Cumberland duel meet kicks off Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Maddox Pool.
