INDIANAPOLIS – Two Carson-Newman swimmers finished third in the Championship heat of the 100 Back Friday night on the third day of the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving National Championships at IU Natatorium on the campus of Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis.

Sophomore Natalie Burnett (Sevierville, Tenn.) and freshman Paul Ungur (Baia Mare, Romania) both received third-place trophies.

The Eagles set three new school records during the evening portion of Friday's events.

"The athletes swam fantastic and we are so extremely proud of them," coach Paige McCord said.

Burnett recorded her second third-place finish of the week in the 100 Back and she did it in record-setting fashion. For the second time on the day, Burnett reset her own school record in the event by swimming the race in 54.27 seconds. That time was six-tenths of a second faster than her prelim swim earlier Friday.

Ungur followed the Burnett's path as he finished with a new school record time of 47.02 seconds. He cleared his previous record by five-tenths of a second. He adds his All-American honor to the Romanian National Championship he earned in November.

Freshman Lexy Raybon (Sarasota, Fla.) finished 12th in the 200 Fly to earn Honorable Mention All-American honors. She finished six-hundredths of a second off her school record. Raybon finished 22nd in the 500 Free with a time of 5:01.37.

Freshman Maggie Melhorn (Knoxville, Tenn.) placed in 22nd in the 100 Breast. She set a new Carson-Newman school record by swimming 1:04.35, three-tenths of a second quicker than her previous record.

Freshman Margaret Stansberry (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished 35th in the 100 Back with a time of 58 seconds flat.

The women's team is in 16th after three days of competition and the men are currently 19th.

The Eagles will return to IU Natatorium on Saturday for the final day of competition. A full recap of Saturday's races will be available on cneagles.com.
