Lexy Raybon Interview

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Carson-Newman women's swimmer Lexy Raybon (Sarasota, Fla.) was named the Bluegrass Mountain Conference's Swimmer of the Week for her performance in the Eagles' duel meet win over the University of the Cumberlands.

Raybon's accolade was the first in the history of the Carson-Newman swim program.

Raybon (Sarasota, Fla.) picked up two individual wins in the mile Freestyle with a time of (17:46.94) and the 200 Butterfly (2:08.21) against the Patriots last Saturday in Maddox Pool. She was also a member of the third-place 200 Freestyle Relay team.

"I'm really honored. I'm really excited. This already, as a freshman, has been a heck of an experience," Raybon said.

This season, the freshman has set two school records and won four events in duel meets.

Raybon (Sarasota, Fla.) destroyed the former school record in the 200 Butterfly by four seconds with a record of 2:06.82 at the Lenior-Rhyne duel meet. She also won the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:10.07, which was just one second off her school record against the Bears. She also was a member of the winning relay time in the 400 Freestyle Relay.

At the team's intrasquad meet, the Second Splash, Raybon swam a 5:09.51 to break the Carson-Newman's record in the 500 Freestyle by over two seconds.

"We've been really training hard in and out of the water. I mean, me and (coach Paige McCord), we have meetings about the what we need to do as a team," Raybon said of her season. "I've really had my teammates behind my back the entire time. I think that has a really big part of all my success is that I've had so much motivation between my coaches and my teammates.

It's not just what I do in the water, it's all the motivation I have outside the water."
