Burnett, men’s 200 Free Relay to swim for NCAA gold

INDIANAPOLIS – For the second consecutive day, sophomore Natalie Burnett (Sevierville, Tenn.) will swim for a National Championship at the NCAA Division-II Swimming and Diving Championships at IU Natatorium.

But this time, she will not be the only Eagle swimming for hardware. The men's 200 Free Relay will be joining her for Thursday's night session in Indianapolis.

Burnett qualified third in the 100 Fly with a time of 53.94, which was three-tenths of a second off her school record. Bluegrass Mountain Conference foe Armony Dumur qualified first with a meet record time of 52.44, a full one-second ahead of any other swimmer.

The men's 200 Free Relay was forced into a swim-off with Lindenwood after both teams swam identical times of 1:20.88 for the eighth and final spot in the Championship heat. The Eagles swam the swim-off in 1:20.32 and the Lions finished in 1:20.57 to push the men's team to its first ever Title heat.

The 200 Free Relay team is complied of freshman Paul Ungur (Baia Mare, Romania), sophomore Samuel Schechter (Knoxville, Tenn.) and seniors Stephen Parsons (Auburn, Ala.) and Ben Young (Morristown, Tenn.).

Ungur will be swimming in the consolation heat of the 100 Fly as the 16th-seed. He reset his school record in the event with a time of 48.59 seconds.

Joining Ungur in the consolation heats will be the women's 400 Medley Relay. The Eagles qualified 13th with a swim time of 3:50.79.
