ORLANDO, Fla. – The Carson-Newman women's tennis team fell 8-1 for the second consecutive day, after a Saturday afternoon loss to Palm Beach Atlantic.
"We struggled in doubles today," Carson-Newman head coach Jean Love said. "We know what we have got to work on now. So we'll go back to practice on these things. We were competitive in most of the singles but need to take advantage of our opportunities. We will go back to practice and get better."
Jill Corsato-Owsianka (Germany) was the only Carson-Newman (0-2) to register a win on the afternoon. Corsato-Owsianka won in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) over Palm Beach Atlantic (1-0) player Leoni Polzin.
Ali Harris (Crossville, Tenn.) lost in straight sets (6-3, 7-5) for the second consecutive day at the No.1 singles position. Freshman Alisa Liashova (Ukraine) was unable to pick up her second career victory on Saturday afternoon as she lost to Taylor Conti (6-3, 6-1) at No. 3 singles.
Klara Vuckovic (Germany), Lindy Tatum (Henderson, Tenn.) and Sydney Ledington (Corbin, Ky.) finished out singles play with straight set losses to the Sailfish. Vuckovic fell 6-2, 6-1 to Romina Bolagay, Tatum lost to Maja Jovic 7-5, 7-5. Ledington came up short against Michaela Mignemi at the No. 6 singles position with a 6-3, 6-3 loss.
Doubles play was not much better for the Eagles as they lost a trio of matches to the Sailfish. In No.1 doubles play the tandem of Corsato and Liashova fell 8-6. The duo of Harris and Tatum fell for the second consecutive day losing 8-3 and the tandem of Ledington and Vuckovic rounded out doubles action with an 8-2 loss.
The Eagles will look for their first victory of the season on Friday night against Bellarmine. The match will take place in Louisville, Ky at 8 p.m.
