WINGATE, N.C. – The Carson-Newman women's tennis team was unable to win a set in a 9-0 loss to Wingate on Friday afternoon.
"Wingate was too good for us today," Carson-Newman tennis coach Jean Love said. "When we did have chances to make an impact, we missed shots we can and should make. We will regroup and get ready for Catawba."
Carson-Newman (4-4, 2-2) had a great chance at No. 1 doubles to pick up a victory against Wingate (8-1, 5-0). The duo of Ali Harris (Crossville, Tenn.) and Jill Corsato-Owsianka (Germany) took the match into a tiebreak against Oroma Womeodu and Maria Garcia. The Eagles would ultimately fall though 9-8.
The No. 2 doubles tandem of Alisa Liashova (Ukraine) and Klara Vuckovic (Germany) saw their four match win streak come to end on Friday afternoon. The duo lost 8-3 to the pairing of Andrea Ternera and Sydney Homan. The Eagles No. 3 doubles pairing of Lindy Tatum (Henderson, Tenn.) and Sydney Ledington (Corbin, Ky.) lost 8-0 to finish doubles action.
