JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman Women's Tennis continued its winning ways with a sweep of the visiting Pride of Purdue Northwest.
Carson-Newman (6-2) had an easy start to the day against a Purdue Northwest (4-10) side that only had five healthy players traveling.
That meant Carson-Newman was able to clinch an automatic singles point, and only needed to win one of the two doubles flights to clinch a second point. C-N did just that, taking both doubles flights and a 2-0 lead into singles action.
"We wanted to get a little more focused in doubles. We wanted to see what we could do with different combinations," Carson-Newman Women's Tennis head coach Nathan Gangelhoff said. "There's still more things to look at. There's a lot more things left on the table to see if we can play better."
Kira Baacke (Seligenstadt, Germany) shined in a rare singles appearance winning both her doubles and singles matches earning Food City Player of the Match honors.
"I worked very hard on my forehand," Baacke said. "My backhand, most of the time, is very good, but I'm sometimes scared of my forehand so I worked on it. Also, yesterday we worked hard on doubles, and I think it worked."
In singles, Maria del Mar Sarda Marti got the victory by default in the No. 6 flight while Andrea Aguiar (Miranda, Venezuela), Mar Fraile (Barcelona, Spain), and Maria Ulloa (Cuba) all got rare starts in the singles lineup.

The Eagles didn't seem like they knew a doubles match was already won by default, as both doubles pairings dominated their competition from the Pride winning 6-1 and 6-2.
