MONROE, N.C. – No. 44 Carson-Newman Women's Tennis was handed its first conference loss of the season to No. 22 Wingate.
A streak of seven wins in a row has come to an end for No. 44 Carson-Newman (9-3, 6-1 South Atlantic Conference) in its first game with an ITA ranking, the undoer of the stretch was No. 22 Wingate (11-4, 7-1 SAC) who bounced back from a tough loss in its last contest to No. 7 Catawba.
The Bulldogs prevailed in a 4-0 sweep, marking the first time the Eagles have been swept this season. The best fight of the afternoon came from Maria del Mar Sarda Marti who stays undefeated in singles play this season with an unfinished match.
In singles, four of the six courts went to the third set, with only one such match going to completion.

No. 4: Claudia Vallejos (WU) vs. Maria del Mar Sarda Marti (C-N) 4-6, 6-2, 4-2, unfinished
No. 5: Gigi Hinson (WU) def. Leah McBride (C-N) 6-4, 6-2
No. 6: Mariia Bobrovska (WU) vs. Kira Baacke (C-N) 6-3, 4-6, 4-0, unfinished
In doubles, the Bulldogs had a healthy lead on all three courts before securing the clinching point. No Eagles pair could win more than a single game against their Bulldog counterparts.

The Eagles return to action on Wednesday, April 2, for another road contest against rival Lincoln Memorial in Harrogate, Tenn. First serve is set for 11 a.m. at the LMU Indoor Tennis Complex.
