Streeter snags TSWA Player of the Week laurels

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Marnie Streeter was named the Tennessee Sportswriters Association Player of the Week Wednesday morning for her standout weekend in leading Carson-Newman to four match victories over Peach Belt Schools to extend the team's winning streak to five matches.

This plaudit is the fourth time in her career that she is honored with a weekly honor and first since Nov. 5, 2018 when she was named the South Atlantic Conference's Player of the Week.

The Goldvein, Va. native tallied a monster weekend racking up 55 kills and 35 digs over 14 sets posting three matches with double-digit kill days. Overall during her senior campaign she has nine efforts with at least 10 smashes bringing her career total to 64.

At no point during the weekend was Streeter's efficiency below .219 as she opened the weekend with a dozen smashes against Georgia College. Helping C-N hand USC Aiken its first loss of 2019, the outside hitter racked up 15 kills on a .345 hitting clip adding nine digs in a sweep of the Pacers to wrap up the first day of the SAC/PBC Crossover.

On day two, the senior started the day with a season-high 19 kills hitting .311 picking up nine more scoops in a four-set win over Augusta. To end the weekend, Streeter had nine kills and 12 digs in a win over Lander to close out the first 4-0 weekend against the Peach Belt over the six years of the event.

Putting together a quality final season at Mossy Creek, Streeter has the second-most kills in the SAC with 186 ranking eighth in kills per set with 3.00 and points per set at 3.48.

She has shot up the program's all-time kills list sitting at 1,213 entering this weekend's play needing a dozen more to shoot into ninth. Her 4,183 total attacks ranks as the second-highest in a career behind Jenna Rust's 4,426. Those figures rank 17th and fourth among active Division II players.

Through six matches in October, Streeter is pounding out 3.64 kills per set on a .250 hitting percentage while she has at least 10 kills in seven of her last 11 outings.

The two-time All-SAC selection has three double-doubles on the year leading the team in kills on eight occasions bringing her career tallies to 17 and 58 respectively.

Streeter leads Carson-Newman into a conference weekend with matches against Coker Friday at 7 p.m. and 22nd-ranked Wingate Saturday at 2 p.m. at Holt Fieldhouse. Both affairs will be streamed by the Eagle Sports Network on cneagles.com/live.
