UPSET:

Women's Basketball at #21 Lander: Playing a Lander team that had upset Clemson in an exhibition game the week before, C-N led for nearly 35 minutes in a 77-69 win over 21st-ranked Lander on Nov. 9. The Bearcats were 66-8 at home over the prior five seasons as the Lady Eagles ended a 10-game home winning streak. Addison Byrd scored 21 points and Kayla Marosites finished with 17 points and 15 rebounds in the win. C-N held Lander to 34 percent shooting in the win.

Volleyball v. #22 Wingate:On Oct. 19, Carson-Newman took down No. 22 Wingate in four frames at Holt Fieldhouse. The Bulldogs had won 22 straight regular-season matches and were one of four remaining undefeated teams with a total four sets lost prior to the match. It snapped an 11-match winning streak over C-N since the Eagles last won over a ranked team back on Nov. 4, 2014 when the 'Dogs were ranked seventh playing at home. Four Eagles finished with double-digit kills led by 15 from Erin Edwards.

Volleyball v. #24 Wingate (SAC SF): In the SAC semifinals, the Eagles upended a ranked Wingate crew for the second time during the year handing the Bulldogs their second loss in 2019. It is the first time in school history that C-N has beaten two ranked clubs in the same year. The Eagles held a Wingate team that ranked in the top 30 in the nation in hitting percentage to .049 behind 16 rejections. Erin Edwards blasted 17 kills on a .417 hitting clip. Megan Oldenburger posted 16 kills and 25 digs with Morgan Ballard adding 33 digs.

Men's Soccer at No. 15 Coker: The Eagles needed just one goal to pick up their first win over a ranked opponent since the 2017 season. That goal came in golden fashion off the toe of Nic Carsh in the 103rd minute at Coker. C-N snapped No. 15 Coker's five-match winning streak and picked up its first win on the home field of a ranked squad since 2013 in the 1-0 victory. The match was a scoreless stalemate through three periods of play with 32 total shots being taken before Carsh's dagger 2:32 into the second overtime. C-N's netminder Bram Kaarsgaren was called upon for five saves in the clean sheet.

Football at #11 Bowie State: No. 24 Carson-Newman  held 11th-ranked Bowie State to its lowest point total of the season and bounced the CIAA Champs from the NCAA playoffs with a 17-9 win Saturday afternoon at Bulldogs Stadium. The Eagles halted Bowie State's 11-game winning streak overall and its nine-game winning streak at home.  Meanwhile, Carson-Newman pumped the breaks on a four-game road playoff losing streak, and a four-game road losing streak to ranked teams.  Bowie State is the highest ranked team has beaten since the Eagles knocked No. 5 North Alabama out of the playoffs on Nov. 28, 2009, 24-21.  That contest represents one of now three road playoff victories for Carson-Newman since moving to Division II.

Women's Soccer v. #6 LMU: A highlight of the 2019 season for the Eagles came early, when C-N triumphed over No. 6 Lincoln Memorial by a 2-1 final on Sept. 18. Defender Jente Kuper opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a shot to the right-hand side of the net from 12 yards out, but LMU would respond less than two minutes later with a goal of its own to knot things at one apiece. The game would remain deadlocked for over an hour of play until a header from junior defender Lira Mathes was struck into the center of the net in the 84th minute to secure the victory.
