JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman athletes made a splash on day one of the 2018 ETSU Buccaneer Invitational on Friday with a collection of runners heading to various finals and earning new bests in the process.

Kieran Showler-Davis returned to action after missing the previous two meets with the Eagles nursing an injury, proving that he remains one of C-N's top athletes in the 60 meter dash.

The native of Winchester, England recorded a time of 6.86 seconds in the prelims earning the fifth best time. The senior then turned in a time of 6.80 seconds in the semis making it to the finals scheduled for tomorrow. The time for Showler-Davis is sixth in the nation.

Freshman Devon Moore, who collected his first collegiate win last weekend in the 60-meter dash, rounded out the top-10 in this afternoon's prelims with a time of 6.92 seconds to qualify for the semis. His time in the semis came in slightly faster at 6.88 seconds placing ninth which is also enough to make the finals for Saturday.

With the time, the native of Baxley, Ga. provisionally qualified for the indoor national championships in March.

Moore also qualified for the finals in the 200-meters clinching the top-8 with a time of 22.05 seconds for a new season-best in the event.

On the women's side of the same event, Tia Davis and Amanda Lowe recorded personal-bests in the prelim sprints to earn spots in the semis. Davis recorded a time of 7.91 seconds which was good for ninth overall. Lowe came in with a time of 8.01 seconds which sat at No. 15.

Davis' time of 7.91 seconds broke the school record for the 60-meter dash which she has already topped twice during the 2017-18 season.

Davis and Lowe collected spots in the 60-meter finals on Saturday after times of 7.94 and 7.95 seconds respectively in the semis.

"It was a great day for our sprinters, especially in the 60's," Coach David Needs stated. "It was good to see Kieran run well and we hope he can get back out there tomorrow. We're excited to see what we can do in the finals races, but we were happy with a lot of other times that didn't qualify for final races."

For the third time this season, when Davis has broken one record, she didn't stop there. In the 200-meter dash, Davis broke the program record which she created twice this season with a time of 26.20 seconds. Despite a 14th place finish, the time was not enough to make the event finals.

Cierra Henderson recorded a time of 26.25 seconds in the 200-meter narrowly breaking the old mark set by Davis at ETSU on Jan. 12.

Tori Gaul collected a second-place finish in the pole vault clearing a height of 3.55 meters which marks a new season-best for the senior. Her previous high of 3.51 meters was set just six days ago at the Finn Pincus Invitational.

The Salisbury, N.C. product trailed only Western Carolina pole vaulter Meghan Breden.

"It was a good first day for us when you're facing teams from the Southern Conference and even from our own league," Needs added. "It really gives a good idea of where you are at in terms of competition."

Luke Greer attended the Camel City Elite Invitational in Winston Salem, N.C. to compete in the 3000 meter race where he finished 24th with a time of 8:35.44.

Day two of the ETSU Buccaneer Invitational will commence tomorrow morning. Live updates are available at timinginc.com
