Needs group jaunts west for Tennessee Challenge

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.  – Carson-Newman Track & Field will trek 29 miles down the road to Knoxville on Saturday for the Tennessee Challenge hosted by the Tennessee Volunteers at Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium.

"We've got a few things we want to get done this weekend," Coach David Needs stated. "Make sure those who are going to Nationals are securing their spots, those trying to get into Nationals, and some who probably know they won't get there but want to improve."

The competition will be high as Division I schools in Vanderbilt, Middle Tennessee, Wake Forest and Tennessee are a number of universities who will be in attendance.

For the majority of the Eagles student-athletes, it marks the first meet since the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Championships in Charlotte two weeks ago.

Six Eagles claimed top spots at the league championships at the Irwin Belk Complex which will be the site of the NCAA Championships at the end of the month.

"Once the conference meet is over, the mentality shifts," Needs added. "You hope that you have people who are perfecting their individual craft as it comes more of an individual nature for these kids."

Events will start around 9:00 a.m. and continue late into the one-day meet.
