BIRMINGHAM, United Kingdom – The summer of 2018 has continued to have Carson-Newman University well-represented overseas. Track All-American Kieran Showler-Davis competed in the British National Championships & European Championship Trials over the weekend taking place in the 100-meter dash at Alexander Stadium, a place which will host the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

"I took a few weeks off after NCAAs to let my body rest a bit, but since I've been back home I've been training back with my coach and my dad at home at Basingstoke Athletics club," said Showler-Davis who earned fourth overall with a time of 10.36 seconds.

The trials set up the senior sprinter with an opportunity to compete in the upcoming British National Championships & European Championships in early August.

Showler-Davis won his heat during the morning session with a time of 10.62 seconds, though he was fighting a -1.9 headwind.

The semifinal slated for later in the day, the all-American posted a better time at 10.55 seconds fighting yet another headwind, but narrowly missed a top-three finish by .04 seconds with a sixth-place finish overall. The .04 seconds also came up just short of a qualifying time for the final.

"I was looking forward to the British Championships to see whether I could make the final in a British sprint scene that has some of the best depth in the world currently," Showler-Davis added. Sometimes it's hard to get yourself back up for races after you've already raced in a championship like the NCAAs which is your main aim that season and it was good to gauge where I'm at.

"I'm still in good shape and injury free so I'm looking to get some more favorable conditions and see what time I can run and maybe even long jump a time or two before I call it a season."

To put it in perspective on how good the British scene is, four of the six sprinters in the finals had sub-nine personal-best times.
