JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman head men's basketball coach Chuck Benson has announced the addition of Appalachian State men's basketball alum Trey Ford to the Carson-Newman coaching staff as a graduate assistant coach.

"Trey spent time as a player at App State," Benson said. "He worked with Team Curry and comes from a family of coaches.  He is excited for the opportunity and think he will bring value to our program on multiple levels."

Ford was a four-year player at Appalachian State before spending the last year coaching in the high school ranks and for Team Curry – an AAU organization sponsored by Steph Curry based in Charlotte

"After I graduated from Appalachian State I was looking to get my foot in the door in a college program," Ford said. "This seemed like a great fit and a great opportunity. Throughout my playing career I had a variety of roles, and that's the same thing I hope to bring to the table in this position."

Ford averaged 1.4 points per game at Applachian State on 64 percent shooting from the field and 58 percent from the three.  His best game came against Milligan as a senior when he had five points and two assists against the Buffs.

He graduated from Lake Norman High School in Mooresville, N.C. where he earned all-conference and all-county honors as a senior.  He won the team's Defensive MVP award as a senior and the Wildcat Award as a junior.

His parents both played basketball at Defiance College.
