Brenegan becomes third Eagle to win TSWA Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Carson-Newman junior guard Luke Brenegan (Greenville, S.C.) has has grabbed his second accolade in as many days. The Tennessee Sportswriters' Asssociation has named him the State Player of the Week.

Brenegan becomes the third Eagle in the last four weeks to be recognized by the organization.  He is the first C-N player to win TSWA Player of the Week and SAC Player of the Week awards in the same week since Grant Teichmann was recognized in the first week of the 2018-19 season.

The Greenville, S.C.-native follows Ren Dyer (Weaverville, S.C.) and Tripp Davis (Nashville, Tenn.) as Carson-Newman players recognized this season by the TSWA.  It marks the first time C-N has had three different players recognized by the TSWA in a single season.

Brenegan averaged 17 points per game  for the week on a slash line of 59.3 percent shooting from the field, 60 percent shooting from beyond the arc and a perfect 100 percent effort from the free throw line.

He started the week Monday with a 15-point performance in a 91-55 shellacking of Limestone. He followed that up Wednesday with a stat-sheet stuffing against Anderson in a 95-59 win.  He had a season-high 19 points to go along with five assists, two boards and two steals.

The junior concluded the week Saturday in an 81-62 beating of Catawba with 17 points, including 14 in the second half to go with four boards and a pair of dimes dropped.

Brenegan has knocked down 12 of his last 20 shots from beyond the arc and seven straight free throws.
