JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman Director of Athletic Communications Adam Cavalier has announced the hiring of Matthew Osborne as the school's new Associate Director of Athletic Communications.
Osborne will handle media relations for men's and women's swimming, men's and women's golf and cross-country, in addition to other broadcast and writing duties with the rest of the Eagles' 12 varsity sports.
"Matthew is a five-tool media relations professional," Cavalier said. "He can write, he can broadcast and he's adept at all forms of social media. We're thrilled for him to come on board and bring his championship-caliber ideas to our team."
Osborne's award-winning professional career includes a season with the Smokies Radio Network, the Double-A affiliate for the Chicago Cubs. With the Smokies, Osborne served the role of beat writer for the radio network's website and broadcast intern. He also was in charge of the network's Twitter and Instagram accounts. The 2013 broadcast team garnered honorable mentions for numerous national broadcasting awards.
He's also covered the Knoxville Ice Bears of the Southern Professional Hockey League for the Maryville Daily Times, and prep sports for the Daily Times.

"The Carson Newman brand is well known around East Tennessee and the United States and I'm proud to be given the chance to serve the university and continue to make Carson Newman the premier athletic department in Division II athletics."
Osborne is a native of Knoxville, Tenn. and a graduate of Fulton High School. As a senior, Osborne served the role as the "Voice of the Fulton Lady Falcons" for women's basketball and produced, directed and hosted the "Fulton Countdown to Kickoff Show", which placed second in the 2010 John Drury High School Radio Awards for Best Sports Talk. He returned to the WKCS airwaves in the fall of 2013 as a sideline reporter and color commentator for the state champion Fulton Falcon football team.
Osborne is a 2014 graduate of the University of Tennessee with a degree in Journalism and Electronic Media.
