JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman football quarterback De'Andre Thomas (Milledgeville, Ga.) and women's golfer Elizabeth England (Oakland, Tenn.) have been named Bojangles' Male and Female Athletes of the Week.
Carson-Newman freshman golfer Elizabeth England (Oakland, Tenn.) was dominant at the Etowah Intercollegiate last week.
It only took England three tournaments to make Carson-Newman history by becoming the program's first individual medalist since 2009 and fifth in school history.
A first round score of 73 put England in sole possession of first-place. In the second and final round, England's round-low 75 propelled her to the tournament win, finishing with a two-round total of 148.
De'Andre Thomas (Milledgeville, Ga.) set a career high for rushing touchdowns with four and also found the end zone once through the air in the Eagles' 35-33 win over Catawba. He piled up 291 yards of total offense, a season high 104 on the ground and a season high 173 through the air.
The junior from Milledgeville won player of the week honors twice last year, following wins at Colorado Mines and North Greenville.
Saturday's game at Catawba marked his ninth career game with multiple rushing touchdowns and his fourth with three or more. With the four scores, he moves into a tie for ninth with Nate Inman on C-N's career rushing touchdowns list with 29.
He crested the century mark on the ground for a fourth time (the Eagles are 4-0 all-time when he goes over the century mark).
His five total touchdowns match the career high five he scored (three rushing, two passing) in the Eagles' regular season finale at Wingate last season.
