Hibbett, Pickett take home Bojangles’ Student Athlete of the Week honors

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman football running back Andy Hibbett (Corryton, Tenn.) and volleyball setter Kristen Pickett (Cleveland, Tenn.) have been named Bojangles' Male and Female Athletes of the Week.

In three matches last week, senior setter Kristen Pickett notched a double-double in each contest. The Eagles swept Converse to start the week as Pickett dished out 33 assists to go along with 11 digs. The preseason second team All-South Atlantic Conference selection also tallied her 100th career service ace as she creeps closer to the school's top-five.

Carson-Newman traveled to Augusta, Ga. where once again Pickett piled up big numbers. Against UNC Pembroke, she handed out 45 assists to go with a career-high 24 digs. Pickett capped the week with 22 assists and 13 digs against GRU Augusta.

The senior has played very well over her last nine matches dating back to the end of the 2013 campaign. She has six double-doubles in those nine contests as she is averaging 38 assists and 11.5 digs in that span.

Meanwhile, senior running back Andy Hibbett set eight new career highs in Carson-Newman's road trip to Wayne State.

The senior went over the 2,000-yard mark for his career with 196 yards rushing at Wayne State.

Hibbett set career highs for rushing yards (196), all-purpose yards (254), longest rush (76), longest reception (57), touchdowns (4), receiving yards (57) and rushing touchdowns (3).

He came within four yards of becoming Carson-Newman's first 200-yard rusher since Aug. 30 of 2012. His 76 yard touchdown run was the first 70+ yard rush for the Eagles since De'Andre Thomas scored a 73-yard touchdown at Colorado Mines in 2013.

He also had the squad's first 50+ yard reception since Luther Walker grabbed a 55-yarder against Newberry in the regular season in 2013.

His three touchdowns were the first hat trick game by a C-N running back since Tyron Douglas got into the end zone three times in last year's opener against Wayne State.

Bojangles is a proud corporate sponsor of Carson-Newman athletics.  Eagle fans can get a free large sweet tea from the Jefferson City location the Saturday and Sunday after a Carson-Newman football game where the Eagles score 28 points or more by telling the cashier, "It's Bo Time at Carson-Newman."
