SALISBURY, NC – Carson-Newman sophomore Gavin Hay (Glasgow, Scotland) dropped the first playoff hole to UNC Pembroke's Jordan Walor to finish second at the 2011 Richard Rendleman Invitational played Tuesday at the 6,665-yard, Par-71 Country Club of Salisbury.
Hay and Walor set the 36-hole pace at 139 (-3) before going to the sudden-death playoff. The Eagles' sophomore followed an opening-round 69 with a 1-under 70 on Tuesday to finish tied with Walor.
As a team, the Eagles finished sixth in the 17-team field after a 305 (+21) on Tuesday in windy conditions at the Country Club of Salisbury. C-N finished just three strokes back of Newberry College and Lincoln Memorial, who finish tied for fourth with a two-day
UNCP had a second-day 289 and finished with a 581 total to win the team title by six shots over Newberry. Queens, who shared the first-round lead at 292, finished third at 589.
Newberry's Ben Lown shot the low round on Tuesday with a 69 and joined Walor and Hay on the all-tournament team. Joe McGeean, of Findlay, who was a shot back at 140, and Lenoir-Rhyne's Brandon Squier also earned a spot on the all-tournament squad.
Junior Liam Ashby (Dublin, Ireland) jumped into the top 20 with a 74 on Tuesday. He finished the tournament tied for 19th and two strokes out of the top 10.
Freshman Jonathan Kim-Moss (Mississauga, Canada) carded a 75 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 33rd.
Senior John Minor Jr. (Dandridge, Tenn.) closed his tournament with an 82 to finish tied for 54th.
The Eagles return to action on March 21-22 at the 2011 Bobcat Invitational. The 54-hole event will be played at The Golf Club at Cuscowilla in Eatonton, Ga.
