Eagles fourth, Hay tied for fourth after first round of Bearcat Golf Classic

GREENWOOD, S.C. — The Carson-Newman men's golf team turned in an even-par 288 on Monday and is in fourth place after the first round of the Bearcat Golf Classic hosted by Lander University at Greenwood County Club.

The Eagles are just seven strokes behind tournament leader Georgia Southwestern, which shot a 7-under-par 281. Barton College and Lander are in a tie for second after finishing the round with a score of 287 (-1).

Sophomore Gavin Hay (Glasgow, Scotland) fired a 3-under-par 69 to lead the Eagles and is tied for fourth place, while junior Liam Ashby (Dublin Ireland) shot an even-par 72 to end the day in a tie for 19th.

C-N senior John Minor, Jr. (Dandridge, Tenn.) is in a tie for 26th after turning in a round of 73 (+1). Freshman Jonathan Kim-Moss (Mississauga, Canada) shot a 74 (+2) to tie for 36th, and junior Alex Coughlin (Jefferson City, Tenn.) turned in a 76 (+4) and is tied for 55th.

Georgia Southwestern's Craig Gibson is atop the leaderboard after firing a 5-under-par 67.

The final round of the Bearcat Golf Classic will be played on Tuesday with a shotgun start beginning at 9 a.m.
