CONOVER, N.C. — The Carson-Newman Eagles carded a final-round 305 (+17) to finish in fifth place at the 2011 South Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Championship on Tuesday at Rock Barn Country Club.

The Eagles finished the tournament with a score of 928 (+64). Newberry College claimed its third SAC championship in four years with a three-round total of 900 (+36). Tusculum College finished second with a score of 905 (+41), followed by Lincoln Memorial with a score of 918 (+54) and Catawba College with a score of 927 (+63).

Sophomore Gavin Hay (Glasgow, Scotland) and junior Liam Ashby (Dublin, Ireland) led the way for C-N as Hay finished in a tie for seventh and Ashby claimed ninth place. Hay shot a 3-over-par 75 on Tuesday to wrap up the tournament with a three-round total of 227 (+11), while Ashby turned in a 77 to finish with a score of 228 (+12).

Freshman Jonathan Kim-Moss (Mississauga, Canada) tied for 16th with a score of 233 (+17) after a final-round 76. Senior John Minor, Jr. (Dandridge, Tenn.) shot a 77 to finish in 36th place with a score of 245 (+29), while junior Alex Coughlin (Jefferson City, Tenn.) tied for 37th with a three-round total of 246 (+30).

Newberry's Daniel Stanley captured medalist honors for a second straight year as he finished with a three-round score of 219, including an even-par 72 on the final day.

Wingate's Clifford Blanquicet and Brad Cline of Catawba tied for second place with 221. Joining Stanley, Blanquicet and Cline on the all-tournament first team were Lincoln Memorial's Jamie Chapman and Tusculum's Nick York. Both players shot a 222 (+6) after 54 holes of play.

The all-tournament second team consisted of Tusculum's Derek Cantrell, Newberry's Chandler Gruenmeier and Ben Lown and Carson-Newman's Hay and Ashby.
