Eagles drop second conference match to Catawba

SALISBURY, N.C. – Carson-Newman (2-2, 0-2 SAC) dropped its second conference match to Catawba (3-1, 1-1 SAC) 2-0 Saturday afternoon.

The match was tied 0-0 at half time. "It was uncontested for 45 minutes," Carson-Newman head coach Richard Moodie said. "We didn't look like conceding."

In the 59th minute, Kenny Bonilla scored his second goal off the season off a ball from Corey Faughnan. With 19 minutes left in the game, the Indians went up 2-0 with a goal by Declan Stimson, his third of the season. Thar Thwai had the assist.

"If you leave a team like Catawba hanging around, they'll score two breakaways," Moodie said. "They wanted it more than us."

The Eagles outshot Catawba 11 to 8. Marius Staalby (Trondheim, Norway) and Lucas Siqueira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) both had two shots, both of which were on frame. Bonilla led the Indians in shots with four taken and two on frame.

"We just need to roll into the game on Wednesday and hopefully make some changes," Moodie said.

The Eagles have their third consecutive road game against King on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
