Eagles to take on no. 13 Limestone in second round match of NCAA tournament

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Carson-Newman (13-5) goes head-to-head with Limestone (15-3), the no. 1 seed in the region and Conference Carolinas regular season and conference tournament champion, on the Saints' home pitch Saturday at 1 p.m. for the second round match of the NCAA tournament.

 

The Eagles are coming off a big 3-2 win in the first round against fellow SAC member Anderson. SAC Player of the Year Ross Frame (Welshpool, Powys, United Kingdom) put up a goal and an assist. He now has 16 goals, 10 assists and 42 points on the season.

 

Nick Skoda (Knoxville, Tenn.) scored the first goal for C-N less than a minute after the Trojans' first goal to even the score at ones. Sindre Welo (Trondheim, Norway) flicked the ball across the box for the assist, his seventh of the year.

 

Nico Noll (Esens, Niedersachsen, Germany) got his sixth goal of the year and the game winner in the 59th minute. He leads the Eagles in game winning goals with four. Matheus Bachi (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) claimed the assist.

 

Limestone defeated no. 1 Erskine 2-1 to win the Conference Carolinas tournament Nov. 10. The Saints went down by a goal in the 17th minute. Nine minutes later, Larry Mahon put one in on the far side of the goal off a corner kick taken by Calvin Bond.

 

With six minutes left in regular time, Benjamin Morand scored the game winning goal.
