YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Carson-Newman (4-3) lost today's match 3-2 to Young Harris (7-1) in a painfully similar fashion as last season.

Niall McCabe started off the scoring in the 23^rd minute. He received the ball from Paco Craig and finished with a strike from the top of the box that ricocheted off the left post.

Eight minutes later, Kristian Speake (Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, United Kingdom) answered with a goal of his own to tie up the match. Speake was in perfect position to get on the end of a cross sent over the box by Ross Frame (Welshpool, Powys, United Kingdom) and knocked the ball in at far post.

"We struggled to get going," Carson-Newman head soccer coach Richard Moodie said. "We found ourselves down a goal and got back into the game a couple of times."

In the 32^nd minute, Craig received a red card and Young Harris played down a man for the remainder of the match. Likewise, each team received four yellow cards.

The Mountain Lions were awarded a penalty kick three minutes into second half. Ilija Ilic capitalized on the opportunity for his seventh goal of the season.

In the 78^th minute, McCabe fed in a ball to Alex Wyper who beat the keeper 1v1 on the left side to give Young Harris a two-goal lead.

With eight minutes left, Jake Fielder (Talbot, Tenn.) met a through ball from Frame and blasted it into the left corner for his first goal of the season. "We looked good against a team that is ranked 11^th in the nation," Moodie said.

Carson-Newman outshot the Mountain Lions 13 to 11. Speake led the Eagles in shots with five taken and four on net. Fielder took three shots and landed two on frame.

"We've got to capitalize on games like this," Moodie said, "and win games like this."

Speake is currently second for the Eagles in overall points, shots and shots on goal with 10, 14 and 11 respectively. Frame sets the bar with 15 points, 32 shots taken and 17 on net. He was recently ranked 18^th in the nation and first in the SAC in points per game averaging nearly a point every match.

Wyper led Young Harris in shots during the match having taken three, two of which were on target.

"It was a tough loss," Moodie said. "Now we just have to recover for Saturday."
