Eagles continue conference play on the road at Mars Hill

MARS HILL, NC – Carson-Newman (8-4, 4-3 SAC) heads to lion territory to take on Mars Hill (4-8, 4-4 SAC) tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.

The Eagles are coming off a 4-0 win at Coker last Saturday. Ross Frame (Welshpool, Powys, United Kingdom) contributed a hat trick, including a penalty kick, and assisted the first and winning goal to Nico Noll (Esens, Niedersachsen, Germany). Noll also had two assists on the match.

"We've been coming up with different ways of scoring," Carson-Newman head soccer coach Richard Moodie said, "and we've been playing good soccer."

Frame tallied up 10 points on the week by adding a goal and an assist to the Eagles' 2-0 win over Milligan last Wednesday and was voted SAC Player of the Week on Tuesday for the second time this season. He carries 32 points placing him top of the conference. He also leads in assists with eight and is tied for first with 12 goals.

Mars Hill lost 1-0 to Coker on Oct. 12.

On Oct. 4, the Mountain Lions defeated Wingate 3-2. Felipe Ferraro scored in the 16th minute of action. Eighteen minutes into second half, the Bulldogs tied it up. Cody Foreman reclaimed the lead for Mars Hill five minutes later. In the 62nd minute, Wingate tied it back up. With two minutes left of regular time, Serge Kebbeh put in the winning goal for Mars Hill.

"Going into these last four games, we could come out 8-8," Moodie said, "or be 12-4 and competing in the national tournament."

Carson-Newman lost to no. 11 Wingate 2-1 on Sept. 14. Nick Skoda (Knoxville, Tenn.) scored for C-N in the sixth minute. The Eagles maintained their lead for the majority of the match.

In the final minute of regular time, Lucas Siqueira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) went down with an injury. After a prolonged injury timeout, play resumed with a free kick for the Bulldogs on which they capitalized to send the match into overtime.

With four minutes left in the second overtime, the lights on the field went out while Wingate had possession. Play resumed with another free kick for the Bulldogs that again resulted in a goal and Wingate won the match.

"We have bodies coming back from injury," Moodie said. "Hopefully they'll be able to come in and help us."

Senior captain Rumwald Le Guevel (Vannes, France) had 11 saves on the match. He currently tops the conference with 61 saves and is second with a save percentage of .803, .002 behind the leader.

"This games is a must win for us," Moodie said. "We've been getting better and better every game. Hopefully we continue doing what we have been going into tomorrow's match."
