JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (5-3, 2-2 SAC) defeated Lenoir-Rhyne (6-4, 2-2 SAC) 3-0 under the lights Wednesday night.

In the 17^th minute of the match, Kristian Speake (Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, United Kingdom) put up the first point for the Eagles when he picked off a mishit clear by the Bears' keeper.

"The goal keeper had a bad clearance," Carson-Newman head soccer coach Richard Moodie said. "We were able to capitalize on that mistake which is something we weren't able to do last year."

Five minutes into second half, Nico Noll (Esens, Niedersachsen, Germany) back-heeled the ball into the middle of the 18-yard box for Ross Frame (Welshpool, Powys, United Kingdom) to hit first time.

"The second goal was the icing on the cake," Moodie said. "The combination between Noll and Frame was great. That was a beautiful goal to watch happen."

Jack Martin went down with an injury with 20 minutes remaining in second half. "It looked like he landed wrong," Moodie said. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and we wish him a speedy recovery."

With 16 minutes left in the match, Sindre Welo (Trondheim, Norway) delivered a precise corner to Frame who headed the ball to the back of the net.

"The set piece for goal no. 3 was great," Moodie said. "It displayed a lot of the things we have worked on in practice."

Carson-Newman outshot the Bears 13 to 5. Frame led the Eagles in shots with five taken and four on net. He also leads the team in overall shots, shots on goal and points with 37, 21 and 19 respectively.

"You've got to be ecstatic to score three goals at home," Moodie said. "But you've got to be even happier I think that was the first clean sheet this year. We're very excited that we were able to lock it down and keep a very good team from scoring goals."

The Eagles load back up in the bus Wednesday and head to Lincoln Memorial for 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
