Commanding debut lands Öhrwall SAC Offensive Player of the Week honor

ROCK HILL, S.C. – After making his Carson-Newman debut in the win at Belmont Abbey, Theo Hardenby Öhrwall has been tabbed the first South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week of the spring season.

With the plaudit, Öhrwall becomes the first freshman in program history to receive the honor since the league started announcing the laurels weekly in 2006. Carson-Newman has now had the year's first offensive Player of the Week for two consecutive seasons. Tobias Solem Karlsen was the first award-winner in the 2019 season.

The Stockholm, Sweden native bookended Carson-Newman's second-half scoring bonanza in the 4-1 victory over Belmont Abbey on Saturday to open the season. He netted an equalizer in the 67th minute to bring the match back to even. In the 81st minute, he put a cap on the day with the first multiple-goal outing for an Eagle since October 5, 2019 when Sofian Maghouz scored a pair in the 2-1 win over Queens.

Outside of his scoring effort, Öhrwall tallied the lone assist in the game, providing a helping hand on Harry Whitehead's goal in the 77th minute, for a five-point game. He sent out four shots with three landing on frame.

His two-goal outing joins him with Karlsen and Tom Read in having multiple-goal showings in the last three season-opening wins. Karlsen scored four in 2019 and two in 2018. Read netted a pair in 2017.

Wednesday's originally scheduled match with Lee was cancelled, opening the door for the Eagles to add in a game at Limestone on Friday. Kickoff from Saints Field is set for 3 p.m.
