Eagles break into United Soccer Coaches ranking at No. 14
 

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the first time since Oct. 22, 2019, Carson-Newman is back in the national rankings, sitting at No. 14 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division II Men's Soccer poll that was released on Tuesday.

This is the second-highest ranking for head coach Stephen Lyons' crew since it was 13th in its last appearance. In Lyons' tenure, C-N has been among the top 25 five times now. This is the highest debut for the team in the national rankings since breaking into the poll as the No. 13 on Oct. 20, 2015.

The Eagles finished the regular season as the top team in the South Atlantic Conference league standings, going 5-1 in league action with 15 points to be the top-seed in the SAC Spring Championship Tournament. It is currently 7-1-1 on the year after taking down eighth-seeded Lincoln Memorial in the quarterfinals on Monday, 4-0.

Carson-Newman has grabbed seven clean sheets this year, six of those in shutout victories. It has outscored its opponents 21-2 through the nine games played this season. When it comes to shots, it has outshot opponents in 12 straight matches spanning this season and the prior one by a 210-98 margin.

The Eagles lead the league in numerous stat lines on both sides of the ball, landing in the top 20 of the nation for most, as well. Offensively, they lead with 21 goals, 22 assists, 64 points, 156 shots and 73 corner kicks. They have allowed the fewest goals this year with two, holding a 0.22 goals against average and a 0.917 save percentage.

Two other SAC schools join C-N in the list. Lenoir-Rhyne jumped from 10th to seventh with a 4-0-1 record. Wingate, Carson-Newman's next opponent slid down from 11th 25th, holding a 4-1-1 record.
