Eagles ranked 22nd in final poll of the season

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – In the United Soccer Coaches final Division II poll of the 2021 spring season, Carson-Newman sits at No. 22, as announced by the organization on Tuesday.

This is the first time since the 2013 season that C-N has ended the year as a ranked unit, sitting at No. 2 that season.

The Eagles broke into the ranking this season back on April 6 with a spot at 14th. They moved down to No. 20 in the last poll that was released on April 16.

Head coach Stephen Lyons' group went 7-2-1 on the year with semifinal run in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament where it entered as the No. 1 seed for a second-straight season. It tied for the nation's second-most shutouts on the season with seven and led the conference in most statistics, including 21 goals, 22 assists, 64 points and 16.80 shots per game.

Carson-Newman landed seven players on All-SAC teams by season's end for a second consecutive year and heralded the league's top freshman for the first time since 2006 with Theo Hardenby Öhrwall receiving the program's second accolade.

C-N is one of three SAC teams to be ranked in the poll, joining No. 6 Wingate and No. 16 Lenoir-Rhyne.
