No. 49 C-N Faces Another Tough Stretch with Four SAC Foes

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Following a productive week, No. 49 Carson-Newman (8-5, 6-2 SAC) squares off with four SAC foes in Tusculum, Mars Hill, Lincoln Memorial, and Newberry.

"It's now about taking one match at a time," head coach Jon Parker said. "Tusculum will be tough, and they will play with a lot of confidence."

Last week, C-N faced three conference opponents and won two of three, but this week, with four matches in six days, it will be a new challenge.

@ No. 29 Tusculum (14-4, 7-1 SAC)

Perhaps the toughest test of the week comes against an in-state rival, facing off with a ranked Pioneers squad. After a tough start to the season, Tusculum has won 11 of its last 12. Despite dropping its last match at No. 24 Wingate, the Pioneers have been on an impressive stretch, helping them to a 7-1 mark in conference play.

The Pioneers have posted an 88-55 singles record with a 29-19 mark in SAC play. In doubles, Tusculum is 45-32 and 21-10 in conference.

Tusculum has looked to Nemanja Subanovic in the No. 1 singles spot, and he has produced six wins in that spot in a tough schedule. He also headlines the No. 1 doubles pairing with teammate Anton Krondell, and the duo has posted an 8-5 mark thus far. Will Gee has also been a large part of Tusculum's success, posting a 6-2 mark at No. 2 singles. The two will be a challenge for the Eagles' Marnix Van Dalen and Marc Janse.

Tusculum won last year, defeating C-N 4-3. However, Janse won in a straight-set fashion over Subanovic.

The Eagles will look to bounce back from their loss against their in-state rival a year ago when they take on the Pioneers on Monday at 1 p.m. in Greeneville, Tennessee.

@ Mars Hill (1-12, 1-8 SAC)

C-N will trek to Mars Hill on Tuesday to take on the Mountain Lions, a quick turnaround from playing in Greeneville on Monday.

It has been tough sledding for the Mountain Lions to this point, dropping eight of their first nine SAC matches. Their lone win came in March, defeating Emory & Henry on the road.

In the win, Mars Hill used the doubles point and three singles wins to edge E&H and earn its first conference win. Despite dropping the top three singles matches, the Mountain Lions won the next three to clinch the match.

While dropping the doubles point, C-N took last year's match 6-1. Marc Janse, Gjorgji Jankulovski, and Lars Hordijk earned wins in singles play. The Eagles will look for similar results on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in Mars Hill, North Carolina.

Vs. No. 41 Lincoln Memorial (13-6, 4-3 SAC)

After a day's rest, the Eagles will face another tough in-state rival, Lincoln Memorial, at home. Despite dropping three of their last four conference matches, two of the losses came within a point against Catawba and Tusculum.

Like C-N, Lincoln Memorial has a busy week, as it will face three SAC foes before making the trip to Jefferson City.

Most recently, the Railsplitters earned a win in sweeping fashion over Newberry. In the win, LMU dominated, highlighted by impressive wins in No. 1 and 2 singles.

C-N has a three-match win streak over Lincoln Memorial and, most recently, dominated the Railsplitters in a 6-1 decision a year ago. In the match, Marnix Van Dalen, Marc Janse, Lars Hordijk, and Gjorgji Jankulovski earned points to secure the win.

Looking for similar results, C-N will square off with LMU on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Jefferson City.

Vs. Newberry (4-11, 3-6 SAC)

The action-packed week for C-N comes to a close on Saturday as the Eagles host Newberry to round out the four-match week.

Despite starting SAC play 3-1, the Wolves have been trending in the wrong direction lately, losing their last four matches. However, in the first four conference matches of the year, the Wolves earned impressive wins over Emory & Henry, Limestone, and Mars Hill while coming up just short against Tusculum.

The latest stretch has featured losses to some of the top teams in the conference in Lenoir-Rhyne, Catawba, and Wingate. Despite the tough stretch, Newberry will have a chance to regroup with two matches against Coker and UVA-Wise before heading to Mossy Creek.

C-N owns a three-match winning streak over Newberry, including a 4-3 win a year ago. The Eagles will look to keep up the recent success and close the week on a high note against the Wolves on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Jefferson City.
