Green Wave top Eagles in sand rematch

CHARLESTON, S.C. – In a rematch of the season opener, the Carson-Newman Eagles (0-10) fell to the 20th-ranked Tulane Green Wave (11-8) 5-0 to wrap up play in the CofC Sand Classic Sunday morning.

"Chalreston was a great weekend for us," Carson-Newman coach Dan Ahiers said. "The girls bonded a lot and had a bunch of fun. How can they have a bad time playing beach volleyball? Their toes are in the sand, the sun is on their faces and they get to play the game that they love with their friends."

The No. 2 duo of Sara Fairley (Charlotte, N.C.) and Kristen Pickett (Cleveland, Tenn.) played the most competitive match of the day for the Eagles taking on Grace Weaver and Hannah Holmes. Tulane took the match 21-14, 18-21 and 15-10.

Out of the No. 1 position Tea Juric and Jackie Wegner topped Rachel Harper (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Jenna Wilson (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) 21-12 and 21-9.

The third pairing of Taylor Lowe (Franklin, Tenn.) and Anna Patton (Franklin, Tenn.) were defeated by Madeline Mertz and Lan Nguyen 21-9 and 21-11.

Lauren Santarelli (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Kristina Hill (Lake Orion, Mich.) were topped by Miah Direll and Annie Shurtz 21-12 and 21-5 while Kiayna O'Neal (Katy, Texas) and Morgan Harlan (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) drop a pair of 21-10 contests to Christina McAfee.
