TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Carson-Newman Eagles (1-14) were only able to get one match in Tuesday afternoon at the Florida State Sand Volleyball Courts falling 0-5 to the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks (10-4).
"Today finished a great week-long trip to Florida," Carson-Newman coach Dan Ahiers said. "Florida State has an incredible sand complex! We got beat by Louisiana-Monroe, who is very well-coached. We were up in several matches by ULM closed out well. Part of our young sand program getting better is me getting better as well."
The Eagles were in good shape against LSU to start the day, but weather got in the way. With the delays and shuffling in the schedule, a dual against No. 5 Florida State was cancelled.
"I'm really bummed that our dual with LSU was suspended then eventually cancelled due to lightning," Ahiers said. "Our four's and five's were both up and our three pairs were tight with the Tigers. It's great to see how much confidence these girls are playing with right now."
The Warhawks' top pairing of Marcela Araya and Michelle McNamee closed out Rachel Harper (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Jenna Wilson (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) in another competitive match 21-17 and 21-14.
In the second position, Hope Pawlik and Katie Lindstrom topped Sara Fairley (Charlotte, N.C.) and Kristen Pickett (Cleveland, Tenn.) 21-10 and 21-15 while Hadley Sartz and Bayleigh Hoffman bested Kristina Hill (Lake Orion, Mich.) and Lauren Santarelli (Colorado Springs, Colo.) 21-13 and 21-13 in the third spot.
Alannah Cullum and Claire Crossfield defeated Taylor Lowe (Franklin, Tenn.) and Anna Patton (Franklin, Tenn.) in the fourth spot 21-14 and 21-18 and Kaitlyn Shearer and Taylor Zaeske won the fifth spot over Kiayna O'Neal (Katy, Texas) and Morgan Harlan (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) 21-14 and 21-12.
