Eagles face defeat in Greeneville

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman beach squad fell twice to the Tusculum Pioneers this Tuesday. The first match finished 3-2, and the second 4-1, in favor of the Pioneers. 

"Tough losses today." said head coach Cat Collins. "We fought hard and I know this team can do better this weekend. We have incredibly talented athletes and we will have a quick resest in order to make a big run at the tournament this weekend... kinda like that NC State team."-

The Eagles are riding a four game losing streak going into their weekend in Tavares, Fla.

They have gone 3-1 against the Pioneers this seasaon. Their most recent meeting was just four days prior to the double header in Greeneville. The Eagles are now 3-13 against the Pioneers in their history. 

Match one against the Pioneers contained quick matches. All five flight matches were completed in two sets, with none even going into extra points. 

C-N  conquered seeds two and five but did not find their game winning clincher. 

Paige Halcrow and Ava Fountain beat their Tusculum opponents in staright sets of 21-18. Morgan Foy and Kat Nelson also won their pairing against Katie Murphy and Morgan Willis with scores of 21-17 and 21-15.

The Eagles held off from Tusculum sweep territory in their second game of the day but could not wrangle in more than a singlular win. Carson-Newman's solo victory came from Morgan Foy and Katherine Nelson in the fifth flight. Foy and Nelson took down Bierwagen and Venable in two sets with scores of 21-19 and 21-17. 

Foy and Nelson were undefeated in the doubleheader in Greeneville and are 7-7 as a pair this season.

The Eagles move on this weekend and will travel to Tavares, Fla. for the AVCA Small College Beach Championships. They will depart from Mossy Creek on Thursday for matches from the 12th through the 14th.
