KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – How sweep it is for Carson-Newman women's tennis to start off Saturday. The Lady Eagles (1-1, 0-0 SAC) came out strong and end up sweeping the Belmont Abbey Crusaders (0-2, 0-0 CC) 7-0 as a team from the Knoxville Racquet Club.

Last weekend, Carson-Newman started their season against the Union (Ky.) Bulldogs where the Eagles were not able to overcome an early doubles loss, losing 4-3. This was the first action of the spring for both squads as they entered a season unlike any other.

Saturday's matinee saw No. 1 singles junior Ana-Carla Resende (Minas Gerais, Brazil) keep her career singles mark (21-7) a steady success, with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Vaughan of Belmont Abbey. Senior teammate Abby Reis (Des Moines, IA) was solid in the no. 6 singles spot, earning a 6-1, 6-1 victory to help the Eagles keep their lead.

Mixing up the doubles pairing, C-N found success with Resende and Reis at No. 1 doubles with the duo earning a 6-2 victory. No. 2 doubles saw senior Hannah Price (Knoxville, Tenn.) paired with sophomore Tash Forrest (United Kingdom) claim a 6-0 triumph to wrap up the doubles point for the Eagles. The third and final pairing saw freshman Summer Reeves (Maidstone, Kent, England) and Julia Speiser join forces to start their day off with a 6-3 victory in favor of the Eagles.

To finish off singles action, freshman Violetta Khisamova (Yarsoslavl, Russia) (0-6, 6-0, 10-3), Price (6-3, 6-3), Reeves (6-0, 6-0), and Forrest (6-0, 6-1) dominate to keep the lead in favor of the Eagles no matter what.

Belmont Abbey moves to 0-2 on their 2021 campaign with the defeat.
