Eagles see Bruins for first time in exhibition Saturday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Carson-Newman women's tennis (6-3, 2-1 SAC) hopes to rebound after a home opening loss to Anderson on Tuesday with a trip to Nashville. The Eagles head to Nashville for their second exhibition of the 2021 season, this time versus the Belmont Bruins (2-4, 0-0 OVC). The Eagles will take to the courts of Radley Park at 2 p.m. Saturday.

"Usually, we have five tournaments in the fall and then 20 dual matches for our spring portion," head coach Jim Frederick said. "However, for this year, we are cut down on the number of dual matches we can have so that is why we have had exhibitions against Austin Peay and now Belmont."

This will be the first time the Bruins and Eagles match up in program history.

Last season, the Bruins finished 5-5 (0-0 OVC) prior to the COVID shortage. They last saw action versus Western Carolina, losing 6-1, before they see two matches on Saturday against Radford at 12:00 p.m. and then versus Carson-Newman at 2:45 p.m.

The Eagles saw victories in three of the last five matches on the season. They defeated Limestone 5-2, Coker 7-0, and finally swept Young Harris 7-0. Senior Hannah Price (Knoxville, Tenn.) leads the team with an overall 8-1 record in singles with teammate Ana Carla Resende (Minas Gerais, Brazil) sitting at 6-3 on the 2021 season.

Frederick knows how talented this team can be with the depth from top to bottom. He knows matches like this may say exhibition on the schedule, but his players are treating it like any other opportunity.

Opening serve from Radley Park is set for Saturday at 2:45 p.m. against the Bruins.
