CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Chalk up another victory for the women's tennis program here at Carson-Newman. The Eagles (3-1, 0-0 SAC) battled back-and-forth for the duration of today's match but were able to overcome the Flames of Lee (2-2, 0-1 GSC) by a team score of 4-3.

"The girls won a tough match without a win in singles or doubles from Ana Carla which shows how much more depth we have this year," head coach Jim Frederick states. "We will be very good when Ana Carla is at the top of her game."

Senior Hannah Price (Knoxville, Tenn.) got back to her winning ways by taking victories in both her doubles and singles matches. She and teammate Natasha Forrest (Jersey, United Kingdom) started the winning ways for the Eagles when they won 6-4 at no. 2 singles. Price then continued the day in the no. 3 singles position. There, she battled her way to a 6-3, 6-2 victory and claimed another valuable point for the Eagles.

Junior Ana Carla Resende (Minas Grecias, Brazil) saw two defeats on the day, both in no. 1 singles and doubles. She and teammate Abby Reis (Knoxville, Tenn.) were defeated 6-3 in doubles before Resende went on to battle her way but fall 6-2, 6-1 to her Flames opponent.

Other notable performances today for C-N include freshman Summer Reeves (Maidstone, Kent, England) winning both her matches. She and fellow freshman Julia Speiser claimed a 7-6 (7-5) victory at no. 3 singles which claimed the Eagles the ever-so-valuable doubles point. Reeves won her singles match 6-2, 6-3 to give the Eagles an important edge which ultimately gave them the overall victory.

Now, the Eagles look ahead to SAC play when they travel to Gaffney, S.C. on Saturday to face the Limestone Saints before opening up at home for the first time in 2021 on Sunday against UVA-Wise.
