Boschman promoted to Director of Sports Performance after Long's retirement

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman Vice President for Athletics Matt Pope has announced the promotion of Jeff Boschman as Carson-Newman's new Director of Sports Performance following Johnny Long's retirement from the same position.

"We're tickled to have Jeff," Pope said. "He's a wonderful extension of what Johnny started in our Sports Performance department.  I have full confidence in his ability to take that program to the next level and excited that he has the opportunity to do so."

Boschman is in his second year with the university after joining Long's staff as the assistant director for sports performance.

"I love this place, I love this school and I love these athletes," Boschman said. "I'm so excited for the opportunity to leave my footprint and help our student-athletes progress toward their goals."

He is worked for the last four years with the Liberty football program after spending two years with the Flames.  He graduated from Liberty with a degree in Exercise Science.  He played hockey as a student at Liberty.

He holds certifications in functional range conditioning, functional movement screen and SCCC from the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association.

Boschman replaces Long, who was Carson-Newman's first ever Director of Sports Performance.

After a brief stint, at Louisiana State University, Long shifted his coaching career to the University of Tennessee as a Graduate Assistant for the strength and conditioning staff in 1994. After completion of his Master's Degree, he quickly advanced to the position of Assistant Strength Coach. He was named Associate Head Coach in 1998 before taking over as Head Strength and Conditioning Coach of the University of Tennessee. He now holds the title of "Collegiate Mentor" and Master Strength Coach which is the Highest Honor for strength and conditioning coaches across the country.

Long served at Carson-Newman for six years.
