Cheer and Dance earn national bids at NCA and NDA Camps

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Carson-Newman cheerleading squad earned second place while the dance team earned third place at the NCA and NDA Camps in South Carolina.

The cheerleaders earned second place in the rally routine. The rally routine consists of stunts, pyramids and a dance selection. The squad received a silver bid to nationals for being named most improved at camp.

The dance team's third place finish earned the Eagles a bronze bid to nationals in Daytona, Fla. Dance team members Lydia Vinson and Macy Danielsen were named to the All-American team.

"Lydia and Macy were selected by the NDA staff to tryout for All-American and had to perform individually," says head cheer and dance coach Amanda Lowe. "They were judged on their routine, skills, and overall performance. They were held to the same standard as the D1 and D1A schools. We had four dancers selected to tryout from Carson-Newman, which is an honor in itself. Macy and Lydia were amongst the top performers at the entire camp and across the nation."

Both of the Eagle cheer and dance teams received a megaphone in honor of former coach Christy Bowlin.

"Christy had a great impact on countless people at NCA camps over the years, so it was nice that we were able to honor her," says Lowe.

The 2022 NCA and NDA college nationals will be held in Daytona Beach, Fla. on Apr. 6-10, 2022. At last year's virtual competiton, the Eagles finished third place in the Jazz Open Finals and second place in the Pom Open Finals.
