ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman track and field earned both of the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men's Indoor Athlete of the Week honors following an action-packed weekend in the state of Virginia.

Junior sprinter Devon Moore (Baxley, Ga.) earned the Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors, while freshman multi athlete Christian Shouse (Jacksboro, Tenn.) earned the Men's Field Athlete of the Week accolade.

"Regardless of who they are competing against, these two are performing at the highest level," head coach David Needs said. "They're not up and down depending on who they are competing against, they're motivated to be the individually drive toward their end goal, which is to be at the national championships and win."

Setting the new fastest mark in all of Division II in the 60-meter dash, Moore captured the entire room's attention during the semifinals of the race at the Finn Pincus Invitational with a blazing speed of 6.69 seconds, setting a new facility record at the Cregger Center in Salem, Va.

With the fastest mark set in one event, Moore turned his attention to the 200-meter dash where he was the only participant to record a sub-22 second time at 21.85, winning the finals in convincing fashion. The speed in the 200 also qualifies him provisionally for the national championships.

It is his second time that he has been honored with the weekly award by the conference this year.

"It's just a blessing, man," Moore said. "It just shows my hard work and it's paying off."

For Shouse, the newcomer has already left his mark on the 2019-20 indoor season by claiming first place among all collegiate competition in two heptathlons, including this weekend's Liberty Kickoff in Lynchburg, Va. Against a heavy Division I field, Shouse won three out of seven events including the high jump (2.06m), long jump (7.06m) and the 60 (7.08 seconds).

Finishing with 5,099 points, Shouse now holds the eighth-highest points total in the multi event in all of Division II, with a spot all but locked into this year's national championships.

It is the first time the freshman has earned the Men's Field Athlete of the Week honor, having previously claimed the weekly accolade in the track category earlier this season.

Of the eight combined awards handed out across four weeks by the SAC, five have been claimed by the Eagles.

C-N is back in action this weekend in Johnson City, Tenn. for the Buccaneer Invitational on Jan. 31-Feb. 1.
