ROCK HILL, S.C. – After a seven-hit week to start the season, Carson-Newman senior catcher Nicholas Castellana has been named WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference Baseball player of the week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
The weekly honor is the first of his career. It's the second straight season a C-N player has earned player of the week honors. Harrison Travis won it on March 19th this past season.
In an opening week with C-N recording three wins, Castellana had hits in seven of his 10 at bats to hit .700 for the week. His seven hits were the most by any hitter in the SAC this past week. Six of his seven hits were singles, while he drove in a team-high five runs. He reached base eight of the 12 times he went to the plate.
In game one of the weekend with King, the Lancaster, New York native went three for four at the plate, and drove in two runs. In the second game of the doubleheader, Castellana continued his strong efforts at the plate recording two more singles that drove in two more runs.
He finished off the weekend with two more hits in the series finale and drove in another run as well.
Recording multiple hits in all three games, Castellana now has seven multi-hit games in his career. With a pair of two RBI days this weekend, the senior catcher has already matched his total games with multi RBI from last season.
Castellana and the Eagles are in action today at Shorter at 1:00 p.m. An audio-only stream of the contest is available at cneagles.com/live.
