Navy takes 2-0 series lead in Fall World Series

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Team Navy extended its series lead to 2-0 in Carson-Newman's baseball annual Fall World Series after a 5-2 win on Sunday afternoon at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.

Navy was able to get the early advantage. After a leadoff base hit from Ryan Jenkins (Winter Haven, FL), Seth Benner (Morgantown, IN) drove him in with a RBI single up the middle to make it a 1-0 game.

Orange responded in the bottom of the first inning. An error and a Nicholas Castellana (Lancaster, NY) double extended the inning with two outs. With Wade Carruthers (Phoenixville, PA) batting, a wild pitch brought home Logan Floyd (Adairsville, Ga) to tie the game.

Navy took the lead back in the top of the third inning. After a pair of walks, Benner made the Orange team pay, with his second RBI single of the game to make it 3-1 after three innings.

Colby Abbott (Louisville, Tenn.) extended the margin in the fourth inning. After a sacrifice bunt, Abbott drove in Luke Goforth with a RBI single to right field to increase Navy's lead to 4-1 after four innings.

Evan Mutter (Bristol, Tenn.) gave the Orange team life in the bottom of the fifth inning. He crushed a home run over the left field wall to make it a one-run game after five innings.

Navy would extend its lead the next inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Jenkins ripped a two-run double down the left field line to increase the lead to 5-2.

Harrison Shelton (Clinton, Tenn) and Mark Salicco (Waxhaw, N.C) pitched scoreless sixth and seventh innings to help seal Navy's second win in the Fall World Series.

Jaxon Seritt (Knoxville, Tenn.) was the winning pitcher for team Navy. The left-handed starter pitched four innings of one run baseball and retired nine of the final ten batters he faced.

Benner and Jenkins each had two RBI days. Goforth and Benner both had multi-hit days for Navy.
